Urban camping

My girlfriend and I have often experienced the dilemma of staying in a city for the night. Clearly, we have to spend the night somewhere and hotels, b&bs or even hostels seem like an unnecessary expense in our ultimate-traveller’s budget. This is where urban camping comes in handy.

It’s a fairly unknown subject to myself as I haven’t had enough courage so far to try out this type of camping. Apart from one incident when I had to pitch a tent in the bushes near Johnstone on our way to Isle of Arran. It was getting dark and after about 8 hours of cycling my girlfriend was too tired to cycle outside the town.

An extremist urban city camper was Józef Stawinoga who spent over 40 years camping near a ring road in Wolverhampton, West Midlands (Goodbye Josef).
